Kate Gunn, Founder and Director, BALANCE! HEALTHCARE will be presenting a case study: Overcoming Obstacles Throughout the Design and Construction Process - Avoiding Delays and Identifying Where Complications Can Arise Kate Gunn is currently managing the design and construction of three Super Clinics simultaneously, and has encountered several hurdles along the way. She will share some of her experiences, which may assist you with your project:

• Understanding land issues, and the implications of difficult conditions such as contamination
• Preparing your applications correctly to minimise the risk of rejection and delays

Dr. Garry Taylor, CEO, ADELAIDE UNIVERSITY CLINIC will be leading a session titled Assembling a Robust Governance Structure To Increase Efficiency and Create More Transparency Around Reporting and Accountability

• Setting up a management and clinical structure that will best service the community
• Creating a seamless transition from the project team to the practice team
• Creating clear reporting lines to assist with the decision-making process

Siobhan Harpur, Director State-Wide System Development, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES TASMANIA will be presenting a case study: Best People, Best Practice - Designing the Space to Achieve the Best in Staff Training and Development Siobhan has a portfolio responsibility for the development of new innovative models of care including establishing Integrated Care Centres across Tasmania. In addition she is an Executive Director with the University of Tasmania as the DHHS lead for a strategic alliance called Partners in Health. Siobhan will outline some of the progress with the Clarence Super Clinic:

• Collaborating with local educational stakeholders to assess the training and development needs of the new Super Clinic
• Designing consultation and seminar rooms for medical students
• Creating an inter-professional learning environment that will work

Brendan Jones, Director, ANTARCTICA ARCHITECTS will be leading a session titled An Architect’s Perspective: Design Guidelines to Meet The Long Term Needs of Patients and Staff Brendan Jones co-authored Rebirth of a Clinic: a Design workbook for architecture in general practice and primary care, in conjunction with RACGP and RMIT University. Brendan will discuss some of the most vital areas of designing a healthcare facility:

• Discovering how the design and architecture of your practice can improve patient outcomes and the wellbeing of the practice team
• Ensuring design suggestions reflect the reality on the ground
• Embedding the design into the quality of the practice experience
• Considering current challenges such as multidisciplinary teams, educational needs within the practice, streamlining chronic and acute care, and safety needs
